Euro 2020: Hungary 0-3 Portugal, Match Report


Defending Champions, Portugal kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Hungary.

Two late goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Cristiano Ronaldo sealed victory for Portugal.

The first real chance of the game came in the 37th minute.

Hungary’s Adam Szalai creates himself some space inside the goalmouth and connects with a free-kick. 

His header would have probably ended up in the middle of the goal, but Portuguese goalkeeper, Rui Patricio pulls off a superb reflex save to thwart him.

Three minutes later, Diogo Jota collects a pass inside the box and misses a golden opportunity for Portugal.

His low shot was directed into the middle of the goal, but the goalkeeper does well to stop his effort.

In the 44th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo receives the ball in space inside the box and only has the keeper to beat, but he sends his first time shot over the bar.


Ten minutes from full t-ime, Hungary scored a goal that was ruled out for offside after Szabolcs Schon had put the ball into the net.

Five minutes later, Raphael Guerreiro scored the opening goal of the game for Portugal.

He gets a shot away from inside the box and the effort is deflected past the goalkeeper.

In the 87th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo wins the battle of wills and sends an unstoppable penalty past Peter goalmouth into the right side of the goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo in the 93rd minute scored his second and Portuguese third as he moved past the Hungarian goalkeeper.

Portugal moved to the top of Group F with three points ahead of the clash between France and Germany.
